Hambro Composite Floor Joists will be utilized in the new women’s and children’s facility in Baltimore, MD from nonprofit Helping Up Mission. With Hambro Joists bearing on prefabricated metal stud wall panels, this 145,000-square-foot, 6-story shelter will provide housing and services for up to 200 women & children in need. Hambro offers a non-combustible structural solution with superior fire and sound ratings. This lightweight system bearing on metal studs over a parking structure can significantly reduce the transfer deck and foundation requirements, equating to big savings. The Swirnow team became involved early on in this project by working on an efficient layout with the design team, and providing upfront conceptual estimating with subcontractor input to Whiting-Turner. This helped ensure real numbers during the early design stage in order to keep the structure on budget.
